Wonderful afternoon on the river! David Bamford was a great host and kayak coach and also treated us to some local history and wildlife information! I had done a fair bit of kayaking before but still picked up some good tips and was able to improve my stroke. I didn't join the pub crawl (no, really!!!) but am sure it was as entertaining as the time spent on the river!! Martin and Steve were equally affable and I will be joining the club!
We were well looked after by three strapping instructors who all took the opportunity to show off their skills in demonstrating techniques. I think the group was a bit large at 17, for beginners because as soon as you started getting any monentum, someone would crash into you, doing their own concentrated effort. It got particularly difficult paddling against the tide. "Don't stop!" I was told by a Grinning Wetsuit. Well it would help, if while I'm attempting to go in a straight line that other buggers attempt to do the same. Nevertheless, nobody was left behind. Not even me. I saw one person being towed but I was informed afterwards, actually two people were towed. One person tipped. Again, I'm surpised it wasn't me. I really enjoyed the event. The H&S aspect was really well covered. David Bamford was a great host.

Very phyically demanding but very enjoyable. The instructors were very understanding and encouraging. I would do it again!
