This is a classic Spice weekend away for any budding detectives amongst us. Our plot will have you guessing and working with your team to find out who dunnit!
This year is very much in the spirit of Agatha Christie’s famous Murder on the Orient Express.

If you have joined us on one of these weekends before we have another BRAND NEW excellent plot written exclusively for Spice.

A Train Ride…To Die For

Our Murder Mystery begins on 21st January, 1938, at London Kings Cross with passengers bound for Edinburgh aboard The Flying Scotsman. As they settle in for the 8 hour overnight journey, each passenger opens the mystery package received 2 days earlier, containing their luxury train ticket plus two nights’ 5 * accommodation once they reach their destination. Who would be so foolish as to refuse such a generous gift?  As the train heads northwards a deadly secret reveals itself.  A secret that links all the passengers in unimaginable ways.

Deep snow covers the line on the approach to Newcastle, the train grinds to a halt and tragedy strikes - one of the passengers is found lifeless in his sleeper car. With no visible marks or signs of a struggle natural causes is the obvious conclusion, but a note found on his body reveals more sinister forces at play. An increasing sense of horror creeps over the remaining passengers as they realise that one of them must have killed the victim for no other souls had entered or left the carriage since Kings Cross.

As the passengers await help from railway staff to dig them out of the snow, one of the recipients of the train tickets, WPC Tendall, attempts to solve the case. She asks those present to help her search for clues in the hope that she can discover the identity of the mystery benefactor – otherwise it could be the end of the line for them all.

Agenda for the Weekend: We meet on Friday night in the Bar from 7pm, with a 3 course dinner served from 8pm. You’ll meet your team but don’t get too friendly with your team mates – one of them is a murderer!  The serious business starts on Saturday morning, after breakfast, when you discover that a gruesome murder has taken place!

On the Saturday morning once everyone has introduced themselves in character and given their alibis for the time of the murder (Act 1) we will head into the nearby countryside and into the picturesque village of Bollington which calls itself the Happy Valley on the edge of the peak district. No wonder when they boast 20 pubs.

Along the way we will be deciphering cryptic clues and using map co-ordinates to search for evidence in the countryside (Act 2). Once all evidence is gathered we will meet for a pub lunch.

Saturday afternoon is yours.  You can return to base and enjoy the beautiful grounds of the county house, sip a Gin on the terrace or explore more of the local peak district villages.

Saturday evening we’ll all gather together again for (Act 3:  Suspect interrogation)!  Then we’ll break for an evening meal which will be followed by a Murder Mystery Themed Pub Quiz.  On Sunday morning (Act 4) will produce some more surprises and we’ll separate into teams to workout ‘Whodunnit’.

The winning team will be rewarded - as will the ‘Best Dressed Guest’ and ‘Best Actor’.  It should be a lot of fun with a variety of activities to get your grey cells working.

Hotel Accommodation:  Unwind at Hollin Hall Hotel

Set in elegant landscaped grounds, Hollin Hall is a charming 19th-century Victorian country house in the beautiful Cheshire countryside. Set in 4 acres of picturesque gardens, the hotel has elegant interiors, a highly elaborate hall and an oak stairwell with a glass dome. It’s easy to get to in the foothills of the Peak District just 4 minutes’ drive from Macclesfield town centre. This wonderful hotel is cosy, luxurious and unassuming all at the same time. Their friendly staff will go that extra mile to make your date a true relaxing experience.

Local attractions include The National Trust’s Lyme Park, which can be reached in 20 minutes by car.

Single supplements are higher than usual as they’re not single rooms but gorgeous big doubles.

As the weekend approaches we will be in touch with everyone as we need you to play a character over the weekend.  Everyone is in a team, which will be allocated to you and within the team everyone is playing a character.  No acting is required unless you want to as you are given a booklet which gives you all the information about your character.  You can bring props/costumes to enhance your character and add to the fun (optional).  All the teams have the same characters so if you want to be in a team with your friends then you would all need to play different characters.   This is a fantastic weekend, full of surprises - good fun, great entertainment, wonderful company and super food!

A deposit will secure your place and the balance is due by 20th April and there can be no refunds after this date unless we can re-sell your place.
